How to make a "Live" Recording

(For timed recording, see below.)

1. Turn on the VCR and then the TV, and change the TV channel to 4.

2. Insert a videotape. The VCR should be on already.

3. Set the "TV / Cable / VCR" switch on your remote to "VCR," then:

On your remote, type in the channel that your program is on.

This changes the channel in the VCR, not the TV (which must remain on 4.)

4. Press the "TV / Video" button on the remote. You should now see the channel your program is on. (The VCR should always stay in "TV" mode.)

5. Optional: Set the recording speed to "SP" (fastest) or "EP" (slowest) by pressing the "SP/EP" button on the remote. You may also want to reset the elapsed time clock by pressing the "C. Reset" button.

6. Press the "Rec" and "Play" buttons simultaneously. The word "Record" should appear on your TV screen for a few seconds, and your VCR should light up "REC" in red.

7. When you're finished press "Stop."

Tip: These VCRs record an "index mark" at the beginning of every recording. If you press the "Shuttle -" button on your remote, your VCR will automatically rewind to the beginning of your last recording and begin to play back!

How to set your VCR to record overnight

1. Turn on the VCR and then the TV, and change the TV channel to 4.

2. Insert a videotape. The VCR should be on already.

3. Set the "TV / Cable / VCR" switch on your remote to "VCR," then:

Press the "Menu" button. If you don't see a menu, try pressing the "TV/Video" button. The VCR should always be in "TV" mode.

4. Press the "Select" button. This will access the "Program Set" function.

5. Press "Select" again. This will select the first area to save your timing information.

6. Input the date, start time, stop time, TV channel number, and tape speed. To move between the different fields, press the "select" button. To change a setting, press the CH/SET "+" or "-" button. If you miss a field, press "select" repeatedly until you return to the field you want. (Except for the channel number, the keypad on your remote will not work.) If the word "error" flashes, this means you have currently set the timer to record at a time which has already passed.

Note: the day of the week will appear automatically. It may be incorrect, but just ignore it - the month and day are what is important.

7. Press the "Menu" button. This will save your settings.

8. Press the "Menu" button again. This will set the Auto Timer to "ON" and return you to regular viewing. (To move between the two choices, press the "+CH/SET-" button.)

9. Power off your VCR. After a short pause, the VCR will light up the word "Timer" in yellow and turn off. Make sure your VCR is OFF when you leave the building, otherwise the timer will not engage. (The VCR displays only the time of day when it is off.)

That's all!

Tip: In the morning, press the "REVIEW" button to automatically rewind to the beginning of the recording and start to play back.
